THE LADY CLOSES THE CASTLE

The lady, who of late, overwhelmed, had rued
Her plethora of guests, had a new plight,
For on each problem’s solving there ensued
The exit of some person, and each flight
Bereft the castle of indwelling sound
Until, while wandering from room to hall,
She heard but echoes of each voice, and found
That she did truly miss them after all.
But Nereid and Triton had returned
To liquid realms, while Knight and Fred did ride
To foreign lands. Dark King and Dragon turned
Their eyes elsewhere, and none stayed at her side.
Now sadly she does close the castle door.
Their merry voices can be heard no more.
