SHE AMBLED THROUGH THE GATES

She ambled through the gates without a knock

For a queen was she

Of celestial climes

One glimpse of her face

And the locks gave way

In humble supplication.

A crevice in the embattled fort lit up

A mushroom from out the decaying log bobbed up

The mirage in the desert melted away

And lo! Life youthful and benign

Beckoned me to summits untouched.

I ride on the crest of her smile

And before the voiceless wave dies

Another to uplift me

My solitude defies

Leading me on these effervescent stairs

She plants me there

Where the gods reside.

My lips on her feet

My homage describe

For words shifty

I dare not trust.
