Whirling Skies

Have you ever spiraled free
While you stand unmoving
Or flapped your arms and
Taken flight, weaving unending
Circles till in a dizzy you spin
And joy from within you brims…
Have you ever found a magical moment
That sneaks up unsuspectingly
Grabs you by the arms
And twirls you round and round
So that your eyes sparkle and giddily
Do words spill, incoherent, silly…
In that courtyard that wintry evening
One moment I was calmly sane
And the next breathless, gasping
As the sky undulated in a flurry
As they flew in folly or vanity
Or simply what can only be insanity…
A courtyard of pigeons; a moment before
Pecking greedily at the strewn seeds
Jostling and cooing, so much at peace;
All at once rose to cover the skies
And mindlessly weave and whirl around
The rustle of their wings the only sound…
The moment has frozen to etch
Itself deep into my mind for ever
For I too gleefully rose to fly the wind
Joining in this breathless routine
For surely it was my heart that did project
Its bliss outwardly for the skies to reflect…
