FINAL EMBRACE

I turned and looked at you,
You nodded your head and smiled at me,
My heart skipped a beat or two
Yet my mind said no, it can not be.

You brushed my hand as we walked,
Two by two, as we laughed and talked,
Not a worry in our minds and hearts,
Just to know that we will be close and not apart.

You gave me a hug,
I did not run or even shrug,
Instead, we embraced under the silent night,
Till the very first sign of light.

When my world was dark and dreary,
Your warm lips touched my cold, bloodless cheeks,
You assured me, told me not to worry at all,
For you would always be there to catch my fall.

I held you close as you cried,
Your soft hair against my skin,
Soothing your pain, I sympathized,
As I kept you safe against the rough winds.

But time passed too quickly,
As hours turned to weeks, days to months,
It was time for me to face reality,
To leave all the fun that we had in the past once.

As we looked into each other’s eyes,
We said our hardest goodbyes,
Tears rolled down like raindrops from the heavens,
As I wished that we had one more day, one more second.

You smiled telling me not to cry,
For our friendship will never die,
We will always have each other,
In the past, present and future.

I did not want to let you go,
There were too many words unspoken,
Too many feelings I wished to let you know,
Too many thoughts in my mind hidden.

No words could describe the pain,
Silently alone I had to face,
You said that we would meet again,
As you gave me your final embrace.
