THE UNDERDOG

I am limited by scope
My share of sky is meager
Born with a superior claim
You are a rich inheritor

I struggle to exist
I stretch staking high to get a foothold
You have opportunities galore
You bask in glory for slightest effort

My best efforts prove way below par
When adjudged from the standard of your deeds
You snigger and snub me because
I have the audacity to try to compete

Mostly the outcomes are as expected
You are superior and outshine me
But then there are moments when you too
Are apprehensive of my sheer grit

So you ridicule me -forgetting to be gracious
I keep mum- mine is not the place to take offense
But mind you-your antagonism gives me secret pleasure
It proves I pose a threat to your intelligence- deemed superior

I have taken heart from this
I toil and ask for blessing divine
History is replete with instances
People like me do upstage royal designs
