THE MORNING AFTER

She surfaced from deep sleep
With a smile playing on her lips
Eyes still shut stretched and arched
Reaching for the Man who had lain
Besides her through the night
Her fingers groped anticipating
The warmth of his broad chest
To encounter.....nothing

Time froze as eyes flew open
And found she herself alone
The soft breeze blowing
Rippling through and gently ruffled
Tangled in her disheveled hair
As the soft waves lapped
At her feet again and again

Her body ached was raw and tender
The limbs drugged with sweet lethargy
Weightlessness
Faint grazes on her breasts
Where his hard rough beard
Had left its mark
When he had teased
Suckled her breasts
In the heat of passion

But the sands now were cold and empty
None lay stretched besides
Shielding her from the cold morning dew
So huddled fetal and cold
Shaken to her core as she whimpered
Was it all but a dream?

Misty eyed she lay there
Defenseless, turned to stone
While her desperate eyes searched
The horizon
Seeking and praying
Fearful that he did not exist
But was solely a creation
Of her emotionally and physically starved body and soul

Rivulets of tears flowed
Drowning her in the deluge of her storm
Awash with pain and angst
Of a love lost before found
Till it glinted in the morning sun
Not far from where she had lain
A small golden button she had
The night before with
So longingly played

As recognition dawned
Leapt she to her feet
In one joyous movement
And unmindful of her nakedness
She twirled and whirled........
For in their haste the night before
They had ripped the clothes
From each others bodies
To taste the nectar of their flesh
To bury her face inhale
The fragrance of his body bare

As joy speared through her
Like a shaft buried deep in her core
Affirmation peaked her breasts
A molten warmth spread
Flushed fast through her loins
Fuelling the fire smoldering within
Setting the lady instantly ablaze
