Old Moon

Old moon, up there ~ shining with flair ~
Looking down on me, night so fair,
Doth thou watch the dew fall?
In thy wisdom ~ doth thou recall?
Seeing lovers strolling by ~
Sometimes must catch thy eye.
Peeking out from behind a cloud ~
Covering all in a lovely shroud.
Watching o’er beast or man ~
Spreading romance where thou can.
God made thee to give the night
A paler shade of lovely light.
Stars for company way up high ~
Are they far away ~ or mighty nigh?
In all thy beauty ~ ‘tis so sweet
To watch over the sweethearts as they meet.
Every sparkle of dew at night ~
Couldn’t glimmer without thy light.
So, old moon ~ watch closely ~ gird
Man, beast and every bird
‘Til the breaking of the day ~
When ole Sol’ comes out to stay.
