MORBIDITY ?

 


I often wonder why cut flowers are left

On graves to mark the dead:  but I suppose

They are appropriate---for being cut,

A death awaits them too,  as they repose

Upon the stone to soggily decay,

Thus mimicing profound decay below.


But when the secateurs of circumstance

Or scythe of time cut through a love,  are not

Two lovers just as hapless as the flowers,

With severed stems bled dry,  roots left to rot?
