CLUELESS

They were neighbors
A wall separated their homes
Their tender age and difference in sex
Gave plenty scope for saucy tongues

Under the quizzical eyes-
They both squirmed
They avoided each other -
Without any reason

A fine feud soon flourished between families
The victims baffled- without any clues
Next the community divided in groups
Slinging mud with vigor, without rules

From local papers to national dailies
The news spread like wildfire
A huge debate started everywhere
Decline of morality-a common poser

With this much bad publicity
The girl was married hurriedly
But the nasty scandal threw its shadow
Her marital life was but hollow

The husband accused her of infidelity
She kept silent- had nothing to offer
Exasperated at last with destiny
She committed suicide-and escaped torture

Ransacking her possessions
The husband found a heavy envelope
It was addressed to the childhood friend
He eagerly opened to confirm suspicions

But the contents held him stupefied
It held sacred threads- memento of sisterly affection
The Romeo-Juliet of yore had cast their jinx
The sleazy public mind chose to derive lewd conclusion.
