The Dog and I

Am shaking myself
Again and again
Like a wet dog does

Trying to shed the last droplet
Of that love
Which had soaked into my soul
Consumed me
Drenched me through and through

It had begun to weigh heavy
Saturating my heart
Until I found it hard
To do those everyday chores

He must have felt the same
That wet dog
Unable to bound about
Freely, gaily

So we both shake
The dog and I
Splattering those around
Unloading
Unburdening ourselves

Will I now walk free and tall?
