THE MANY YOUS
OF MANY HUES
You wish to change society
You don't like the way things are
That's why in the matrimonial
You wrote: "Caste and colour no bar"
You feel sorry for underdogs
You sometimes feed them scraps
Give coins to street urchins
And a few beggars you see perhaps
You attend all the dinners
That are hosted for a cause
When you see a fallen man
To lend a hand you pause
You find yourself crying
At the plight of a child prostitute
And put your hand in your pocket
When you spot a destitute
You are really sensitive
And you're socially aware
No one will ever doubt it
They know that you really care
Yet be honest and ask yourself
If indeed you are able
To invite the domestic help
To share a meal at your table
For no amount of sympathy
And no amount of compassion
Will change the cruel fact
Feeling guilty is now in fashion
Yet a small change in attitude
Towards your fellow being
Will bring about radical change
In society from within
You are what makes society
You are what makes the globe
The many yous of many hues
Are society's only hope
