THE GIRL WITH NO NAME

No one came to see her off
When she boarded the train
She knew there'd be no one
Yet her eyes searched in vain

Pale hands clutching
A small brown suitcase
Her frugal belongings
Neatly packed to save space

Unlike the messy knots
Of the life she's left behind
So full of painful moments
And harsh words so unkind

Trembling legs take her
To an empty window seat
She sits down heavily
To get the load off her feet

Sitting and waiting patiently
For the steel's familiar sound
To carry her somewhere
To be simply outward bound

The prison she left behind
Was so full of sorrow
Nothing can be worse
Not even her tomorrow

She squares her slim shoulders
Looks between window bars
She is seeing beyond her vision
Her sights set on the distant stars

A brave heart beats within
This frail and timid frame
She'll find herself a future
This girl with no name
