WHAT POETRY MEANS TO ME

An eccentric array of emotions
Random thoughts put together
Broken words brought to life
Stretching life beyond its limits.
Like a paper boat in storm
Or, a burning flame in whirlwind.
Or like thorns protecting the rose
Emphasizing a will to survive.
A companion standing besides me,
Lending her shoulders
Whenever I wish to cry.
Helping me dance through obstacles
Along with fun and laughter
Simple in appearance she stands
But somewhere in her incomplete verses
A lifelong inspiration finds its home.
Poetry is the fragrance of my life
That shall keep memories afresh,
Even when these eyes grow old
And hands weak enough
When it will be difficult to write.
