I Remember You

“I remember you, you remember me,

We both know how remembering can be...”

The commercial is repeated time after time

Dredging up memories in this heart of mine.

Memories of when we chanced to meet,

‘Twas Sunday… first day of the week;

The mood was gay, conversation light,

We’d talk ‘til the middle of the night.

The years slipped by and soon we knew

We shared a bond only known by few,

Memories of many ups and down,

In our tapestry these were sewn.

Our vehicle was the poetic word,

Each one now in my heart interred;

Some dreams are never meant to be,

Ours were no different, we would see.

Oceanic memories… we seemed inclined

To form an apparition in our mind

Of a cottage surrounded by flowers,

A lamppost that remained lit for hours,

Casting reflections on the encircling ocean

While we walked hand in hand in sheer devotion,

Knowing it was only a reverie,

That these things we would never see.

My heart will hold these memories dear,

Many times I know I’ll shed a tear,

This chapter in my life I’ll store away

To remember anew on a future day.
