EGGSHELLS

I heard your heart.

It seems to beat

So strongly,

But we both know

It's shattered

Into a million

                                tiny

                                                pieces.

I walk

Among the fragments

Delicately,

Fearfully.

How can it ever

                be repaired?

I am careful

Not to crush what's left,

                not only for your sake,

                                but my own.

The edges are sharp:

I could be pierced,

And I bleed

                                so easily.

Oh, for some magic

Of king's horses and men

To put all right!

Perhaps,

If we pool the pieces,

                yours and mine,

We could make

One whole heart.

Do you think

                                we could share?
