ABANDONED

A stranded boat
back to the shore
anchored to an iron bar
swaying afloat without an oar

to the commands
of dreadful waves
the cold undercurrents
freezing its grave

the barren sand
giving it a blotch
the tower light
focusing the notch

its reflection in water
leaves no illusion
moon the only saviour,
shadow no more a companion

reef and shoal
now only anchors
dusty, dried leaves
its only riders

no one to empathise
with her burning desire
to break the shackle
to sail back to deep-water

a rescuer is
all she needs
to break free
and let her lead

it helped so many
who knew not swimming
now tables turned
and here she is lurking

life's evening sun
is sinking low
time is running
beyond control
