GLIMMER OF HOPE

My heart was brutally ripped out

The moment I laid eyes on you

You took it without knowing

You didn’t really care

I was just another face in a crowded room

Nobody wanted to see us together

You were too busy to say otherwise

So you left with my aching heart

It’s too late too apologise;

The damage has been done

Was I to blame?

Or were you at fault?

Alas, all isn’t fair in love

You seemed happy with someone else

I loved you too much to wake you from your happy dream

But, I’m stuck in limbo hanging by a thin thread

Teetering between the gates of love and hate

Yet, all your slow brutal poisoned blows

To my broken heart

Failed to kill the faintest glimmer of hope

That someday on a lonely cold winter’s night

You’ll be standing on my silent doorstep

A lost traveller finally finding his way home

And I’ll be there to welcome you into my arms.
