YASMINI

Pure as fresh rain falling from the sky
we gave birth to our baby - you and I
with each tottering footstep
each wail that woke you from sleep
I smiled upon your radiant face
loved you more, kissed you deep

So what if she's teased by her brothers
does it matter she's not like the others
why only see her tortured limbs
why shed tears or blame our fate
her brain may be dull forever
but for us, she is no object to hate

There may be some who look askance
With no music, why did we dance
They will not understand this yearning
to own a piece of flesh with your heart
look upon eyes brown n warm as yours
with me till my life ends, never apart

This world may be cruel and unforgiving
tomorrow, I may no longer be living
this girl needs your care, keep her safe
give her as you have given yourself to me
on my pyre I hold you to this pledge
forget me, but never leave Yasmini...
