A WORTHY GOAL

If by a poem I may ease

another's plight in life,

If by a few consoling words,

I could ease the strife

of someone on this sea of life

whose lost their direction,

Then all the efforts of my poem

could not find more perfection.

A poem might touch the spirit of

a poor tormented soul

And sort out that one circumstance

that took such human toll

Then help them see that life is neither

good nor bad per say.

Yes, that would be a worthy goal

for my poem today.

Ideals should be lofty spires

that reach beyond our grip

And I, no less then other men,

have sailed a torrid ship

But in these latter days of life

I've hoped to recognize,

The truth and loveliness of life

and discard all the lies.
