A RAIN PAEAN

The rain-washed earth's face
Is fresh, rejuvenated
The supple, lithe contours
Are ready to be invaded

The farmer senses her playful beat
And tills the soil to sow the seed
With the rain-god playing enamored suit
The earth will soon blossom and yield.

Energy saps in- parched throat is moist
Grateful earth preens peacock's feathers
And echoes in cuckoo's voice
Rain god acknowledges and bows with smile!

If all goes well- these precious months
Earth will spend with her favorite consort
But will this phenomenon continue to recur?
Will rain god acquiesce if the earth is denuded, made vulgar?

No, indeed and the heavenly tie will get snapped
Let down by her children- earth will be barren, disheartened
Romance on earth too, will die a natural death
Empty stomachs force out more bestial than divine traits.
