APOCALYPSE

For aeons our little planet whirls
Obeying mysteriously nature's laws
A perfect blend of peace and mirth
In a dark universe of lifeless systems.
Oftentimes Man breaks the aweful silence
With chilling yells of bloodletting
And turns the calm into turmoil
In a replay of history ancient and old.
But 'tis only human tragedies on stage
That's played grand or abject
And soon passed into oblivion
With hardly a ripple on the surface.
A more powerful searing force simmers
Deep beneath the gentle crusty folds
Ominous rumbles heard but ignored
As joyous life flows unperturbed.
Then in a sudden surge of horror
Subterranean pent-up rage ruptures
A blood-curdling roar echoes endlessly
Through the vast void of mocking heavens.
Into smithereens Mother Earth turned
Split up in a ghastly dance of frenzy
All life forms spiralling furiously
Into outer darkness in aimless paths.
Faces etched in terror stared wildly
Hearts frozen in grief beat frantically
Floating, flailing, wailing in death throes
Yet they clung to hope in supreme despair.
Fervent prayers drifted ardently
Saints and rogues united in calamity
But no Voice of mercy rings back
Nor Hands to reverse the catastrophe.
Into the maws of infinite space
In one blinding overwhelming moment
A luminous orb of unparalleled beauty
Glows no more, lives no more.
In the beginning there was darkness
In the end there was darkness.
