RAIN TERROR

26th July, 2005, the morning was wonderful

Littl' kids walking to school

I watched them from my window

Nature was displaying its best show

The breeze was blowing softly caressing the skin

This was before the heavy rains had begun.

The afternoon brought heavy rain

Water levels started rising, with no way for it to drain

Soon, the city was flooded with rain

And attempts to maintain calm were in vain

People were stranded at various places

No means of transport available to take them home

Rains came heavier, as if someone was pelting stone

The common man came to the rescue of those affected

All means of communication crumbled down

and there was no way to stay connected...

Those at home could not contact their own

And those on the roads could not reach home

Evening brought darkness

and by this time everything was in mess

Most of the city was without electricity

And those stranded on road were still walking home

Few took shelter at a friends' place

and few who had no place to go,

dropped in at some strangers' home

The next day too,

everything was still the same

there was no way I could help,

Oh what a shame

I was sitting back at home, dry and safe

All I could do was pray for those whose life was at stake

The rains stopped but the havoc continued

More than hundred people were already dead

Many were homeless and had nowhere to go

It ruined everything, what was first the natures best show

Heavy-hearted, people still accepted the blow

They could never blame nature,

but people complained that rescue operations were slow

There are still many people homeless without food and water

For a few, conditions have improved

But for most of the people it is still the same

there is no way I can help, Oh what a shame.
