YOU VERSUS CANCER

You are here with a smile when I am
happy,
You are there like a vision when for hope I crave,
You trust when no one listens to my earnest pleas,
The foolish world says you are dead in your grave!
Life’s a puzzle, we all try and solve,
Some win all. In the roads some fail,
Some die, when others are playing,
Others laugh, when some fall pale.
Offices resume sharp at nine every morning,
Lunch hours, tea, phone-calls, a meeting for a deal,
The day slips away, I come back home---
To find that there’s a heart to heal.
A heart that’s hell scared of cancer,
A fear that’s swollen beyond repair,
A cancer….. scooping flesh, drawing blood,
Spelling, that life’s an illusory affair.
It had partly killed us as we watched you die,
Hurt our faith, our hope, our hold on life,
Mercilessly laughed as we waited, helplessly
Watching it end your futile strife.
Cancer kills---don’t we all know?
A ruthless killer, killing for fun
But could it really wipe you off?
Your soul’s here, only the body’s undone.
Today I look at the devil in the face,
I grin, smile, and then laugh aloud,
I shout and say, “Hey fool, u’ve failed!
You have no reason to feel so proud…..
…You’re a mess, cause through his son, he still lives,
To his shattered dreams, his wife grants shape,
You’ve botched, we’ll always love him,
Our love fortifies, and…
With death you stealthily escape.
