ON THE ROAD TO SUCCESS

I am a traveller

                    on the road to success

Morning turns to night

no day goes  without a fight to survive

Yet at the end of the dark tunnel

                     I seek shining bright light

I travel down the much trodden road

come across an old beggar in his dirty robe

I decide I need not

Give him a rupee or two

His profession is lies and dramatics

He is happier than me each moment the clock ticks

Soon I witness an accident that just took place

A  truck has run over someone as it went berserk

I have no time to stop to know

If the bleeding victim survived or is no more

Did he reach the hospital

Was his family informed in time?

As I take a turn on the road

I run into a wedding procession

Everyone is busy having fun

All decked up for the function

They laugh and dance

As if in a deep  trance

 Lovers whizz past my car

                       Bodies entwined on their motorbike

Breeze flowing through their hair

A silly smile on their lips

Lays  their feelings bare

For the world around they do not care

Just  a little further down the road

Death stares at me in the face

A departed soul is carried bedecked on a stretcher

He is now out of this rat race

As I pass the silent body by I wonder

Did he step into Heaven or Hell

  The sultry night turns into

                     Another challenging day

Yet somehow today I feel

I have nothing to see nowhere to go.

Why do I think that I am a traveller

                      On the road to success?
