Matters Not

It matters not how I try,

Nor simply how hard,

Be it prolonged weeks--

Or months that pass,

Nothing changes, no matter how I try

The same very peace descends,

And my voice catches,

As I strain to hear your soft cadences,

Trying to hold back

Those moments that rush headlong

My love, you may withdraw,

Trying to help keep me sane,

My love, I may curtail

How often I do you call,

But, at the end, it matters not at all

Left I am, wearing a smile,

And a sparkle in my eyes,

A heart that rhythmically echoes

Your voice, a presence

That envelopes me tenderly from behind

You know, it matters not how I try,

Or just how hard,

Be it weeks or months that pass,

For the moment I brush your aura,

I am lost, forever and beyond time…
