GLIMPSES OF HOME

Flowing breeze as they toil,

Carrying on its wings--

A fragrance of my soil

Sun-sparkled streams,

Irrigating barren fields--

Now lush green dreams

Tinkle of rhythmic bells,

Filling the temple bay--

Casting a soothing spell

Stretched out in the shade

Slumbering serenely --

Under a canopy of jade

Full skirts in a riotous hues

Swaying wantonly seduce--

Village lads with lust suffuse

Green fatigued braves

Soaking blood and sweat--

Unyieldingly enemies stave

Filling sunny courtyards

Chanting young minds--

Learning on small slate cards

Crisp cotton saree clad

Riding local trains--

Second incomes they add

Cross legged on the charpoy

Enthralling with folklore--

Unfolding heritage under the sky

Veil pulled long and low

Cooking in cracked earthen pots--

Staving hunger their woe

Tear filled nostalgic eyes

Hearing patriotic songs--

In our hearts deep pride rise.
