When I Forget You

Ever so often I try to forget you

And get on with my life,

See the beauty in it,

Enjoy the joyous moments

Others so lovingly shower my way,

Ever so often I try to forget you

Ever so often I forget you are that

Constant in my heart

Beating in rhythm to its song,

And then just on a whim

I spread your hazy image before me,

Because, ever so often I forget you

With the force of an inexpressible impact

You instantly rise from that dimension

And completely overwhelm me:

Tears well and flow freely coursing their way,

A strange pained fulfillment grips me

And I lose myself and merge with you

Ever so often when I’ve forgotten you

You wordlessly remind me

That though you may not be available

I’ve made you forever mine,

And if I tell myself you have finally left me

I have to simply see you, and the answer is mine…
