Tombstones

"No regrets"
Etched on the marble slab,
His final words as he lay
On his death bed,
Holding his sons hand with pride,
Pondering over a life
Of fulfilled ambitions,
Ready to cross the gates,
Embrace newer challenges,
Adventures in an unforeseen world.

***

"She will live forever in our hearts"
A bereaved family
Left with memories to cherish
Of a daughter, wife, sister,
Tales of a young life erased by disease,
Which ate through her body,
Her dreams,
As every breath became harder,
And her tears slowly turned red,
Hardened to a crust...

***

"R.I.P."
A silent epitaph
For a body found in the sea,
Unclaimed,
A small grave in the corner,
No flowers to its name,
Perhaps a fisherman
Who braved the storm for his family,
For a son who still waits,
Calls out to him in the dark...

***

Tombstones in a graveyard,
Worn and discoloured,
Like the remnants of a book
Left out in the rain,
The ink of life slowly washing away,
Leaving behind an incomplete tale,
A sheath of blank pages,
And no clue to decipher
The authors true meaning...
