DON'T LISTEN TO GOD

Don't listen to God
He makes life miserable
With all his dire warnings
Of retribution in afterlife
Tweaking your conscience
Tugging your heart
Beating you to a shuddering pulp.

Don't listen to God
His stern laws he makes them supreme
He pricks us all remorselessly
No peace nor rest he gives
But drives us in maddening pulses
To do his biddings in total bondage
To hum his praises all lifelong.

Don't listen to God
He cooks up plots and casts shadows
He dashes your hopes, your dreams
And turns your castle into ashes
Your heart his playground
For him to pursue subtle games
Of vengeance and deceit.

I won't listen to you, Lord
The alpha and omega of sorrow
All the world's tears and ills
You cause to flow with insouciance
But I feel liberated, exhilarated
To live my life to my dictates
To sing and gyrate to my tunes.
