Broken Wings

How could you leave me in such despair?
Could it be that you just don't care?
Did we not vow that come what may
At each other's side we'd always stay;
You want to leave and my heart wrings
With the pain of one with broken wings.

Please say something to ease my pain,
Could it be that I ask in vain?
The deafening silence bids me wait
To hear your words to guide my fate;
For you did vow that above all things
You'd be the wind beneath broken wings.

Please look at me as once before,
Could it be just once more?
Your eyes would surely tell me so
If I'll be fine should I let you go
And perhaps you'll see how my life clings
To the anguished sound of broken wings.

Please touch me once before you go,
Could it be that you do not know?
I yearn for the gentle soothing touch
To ease the pain and suffering, much
But what care you now of such things
Oh who will mend my broken wings.

But Alas I know I must let you go,
And live with memories from long ago;
Forgive me if I cease not to weep
As you rest forever in eternal sleep
Much grief and sorrow your passing brings,
As I carry your soul on broken wings.
