A Religious Debate

There were these men I once knew
A Christian, a Muslim and a Jew.
All righteous men of God you'd say
Who did argue with each other all day.

Each swore his book had no worthy rival
The Torah, the Quran and the Holy Bible.
And each vowed their prophet was the last
Of all holy men for ages past..

And the Muslim would go to his mosque
The Christian to church, the Jew to Synagogue
Each to pay homage in their own way
To the very same God that we all may.

"So friends", said I "why argue all day
About books and prophets and places to pray
Each of you believes in the same things
That to society, peace and harmony brings".

"Let each person choose his own way
To talk to his God in what manner he may
And lets all unite in the belief that we must
Treat each other with dignity and respect."

For so often have I heard this said
By those who are so selflessly led
That if you choose to serve humanity yourself
Then learn to "keep thy religion to thyself".
