Painful Secrets
Sonnets tell of a poet’s life Of unrequited love and woe, Danté’s life was filled with pain Secretly loving his Beatrice so. His love for her was never shown, Held back by problems deep inside, So Danté’s love was not returned, And then one day his Beatrice died. There’s no greater pain or strife Than loving one that’s out of reach; Absorbing the hopelessness that Such forbidden love will teach. Love that can’t be mutual and free Can only tend to bring much pain, Danté learned, altho by choice, his Heart was broken..again and again. What do we learn by Danté’s plight? As feelings arise, turn and flee! If love isn’t shared or allowed to grow And openly shown for all to see, The secret held so deep inside will One day tear your love apart, Until it’s irreparably destroyed Along with one another’s heart.
