Thirsting Heart

In your going I feel the loss

Not of your presence

Or the force of your charisma

Or even your laughter.

In the emptiness I search

Unknowingly

For that intangible

Comradeship

Where I would talk,

With you for hours

Holding you close

Through my poetry

When you would linger

In the kaleidoscope of my dreams

And days and nights

Would all become my friends

When aloneness was a gift

And even tears felt sweet

Because they flowed

Freely with your love

Now, there is silence

As all words have frozen

And though I try find meaning

In the laughter around me-

My eyes remain vacant

As my smile does not reach them

And their thirst

Forms fissures, as slowly my heart dies…
