SHORE

Around me the tidal rages and pours

Striking down one too many

I see them floundering, gasping

Flaying wildly, trying to reach home

Around me I hear the deluge roar

And hear the silent piteous screams

Of those swept, chocking on their fear

Intent only to claw their way to shore

It is not an island that I stand upon

Nor am I unfamiliar with that pain

But as I helplessly gaze at those immersed

I fleetingly wonder if I have finally soared

Glowing Embers
