WHAT IS GOD'S NEED

What's your need, oh! Mighty,

That I've with me in plenty,

To offer You, the Almighty?

Shall I give You milk?

Oh! What a fool I'm?

You're resting o'er the ocean-milk.

Shall I give you nice food?

Oh! What a fool I'm?

You're the giver of my daily bread.

Shall I give You money?

Oh! What a fool I'm?

You're the Lord of wealth, Lakshmi.

Shall I, my life, sacrifice?

Oh! What a fool I'm?

You're its very source.

Then what shall you've from me?

For all the gifts, you give me free,

Tell me, whatever it may be?

Ha! There's little chance,

That You've any ignorance,

What I've in abundance!

Take my ignorance and in exchange,

Give me a gift of Your knowledge,

So this life, I shall better manage.
