The Little Puppy
On a lazy hot summer afternoon, As I cycled slowly along the road, A small yelping sound came softly From a lane where people rarely trod
I braked and hurriedly dismounted, Peering and searching in the bushes, Trying to find from whence this sound Was coming in such pained gushes
Hidden amongst the thorny rose shrub I spied a small grey furry bundle, Creeping near, I bent to find It was but a tiny little sweet wonder!
A crumpled, sad pup lay on its side Tenderly licking its injured thigh, As I looked into its melting brown eyes It seemed to look beseechingly at the sky
Wrapping him gently in my coat, I then swiftly rode right back home, The pup lay still not making a sound Knowing for help it needn't now roam
Sneaking into the sleepy silent house, I gently and carefully washed his wound, Bathed him in my sparkling white tub And guess what I then magically found!
The grey little pup was shinning white, With tiny black spots on his behind, Joyfully he licked my face again and again For no longer did we need a friend to find
When mom was told about the pup, She shrieked, oh but they carry louse And dismayed, dropped her coffee cup Because she wouldnt have him in the house
So a deal was struck, the pup could stay, In a brand new kennel outside the gate, And he could be all mine during the day As long as from mother he stayed relegate! ~Glowing Embers~
