I love you not for your winsome smile
Though it did at first my heart beguile.
I love you not for your charming face
[though ever since I saw it my heart's not in place]

I love you not 'coz you love me true
Or because I'm bound to love you.
I love you not for your constant heart -
There things shall one day fall apart.

I love you not for you too feel the same
Or for both our hearts are infused with this flame.
I love you - for I see you with a lover's eye.
