I LIE

 I lie

Even to myself

When I say

I need no flowers

No cards

Nor gestures small

Or large

To affirm to myself

That you care

I lie

When I pretend

That an empty mailbox

Day after day

Matters not;

That content am I

In the knowledge

That you

Exist

I lie

When I gaze

At those crimson skies

And see you

All encompassing

Forever bright

And yet

Nowhere near me

To tenderly hold tight

A liar I have become

My dear

Who hides

Behind nonchalance;

While all I need

Is to know

If on this Valentine

Did you for a moment

Think of me lovingly and sigh?
