DREAM -
WITHIN - A - DREAM
While we were in bed, your
head on my shoulder
Years seemed to fly past us. I seemed to get older.
Each fleeting moment I lived both our lives anew,
And then I saw the day I first saw you...
that first smile of yours, and the very first glance.
Enchanted, I looked on as though in a trance.
Once, just once
I reached out
Wishing you'd stay right there till I was up and about.
But on my shoulder you still peacefully slumbered,
and, knowing that our days together were numbered,
I moved not. Let go of my greed.
With you beside me what more could I need?
The following
morning you weren't anywhere. I was shattered.
I searched for you, but then nothing really mattered.
There lay my body before my eyes, cold as a stone.
In my death, as in my life, I remained alone.
I knew it was over, for I was presently dead.
We'd never really been together in my lonely bed.
My heart let out
a vague, voiceless scream.
All my life I lived a dream-within-a-dream...
