Stepping Through The Door

Laughter and mirth
I am surrounded by
Cuddles and huddles
Care and share
A world complete?

Had stood at the door
Half in half out
Pausing long to see
Which way to turn;
Rather one way to turn
Only, When?

I stood long
Hurting, asking
Questioning, seeking
Yet did I already know
That the strength had long left me
With each pain
The shell became emptier
Passion fled
And what remained..
Comfort, care, laughter and peace.

Needed the revelation
Needed to accept
That had no fire
The embers were cold
And the blaze long dead
Because the fire was banked.
And the grate now empty.

Have stepped through that door I think
And I float
Resting, sleeping, pausing
Maybe
Waiting to finally shut the door
To my dreams
My yearnings

My deep complete completeness.

And as I step through
I fear
Again
Have I resigned myself
To become
One
Of those?
