The Sea Gull

One day I was sad and lonely,
Feeling as if I was the only,
Unloved and unwanted child
In this world that is so wide.

Along the sandy shore I walked,
Weeping quietly with not a thought,
Leaving a trail on the cold wet sand
With my coat that I dragged in my hand.

The sky was bright with stars above
The wind was cold and seemed to hug;
But I cared not, and saw not a thing
My friend had forgotten my birthday greeting.

Suddenly, out of the dark of the night,
My friend from Heaven came screeching by,
A large white sea gull, so late at night
Telling me lovingly, not to cry.

I heard its call and saw it fly
And understood why god had sent him by;
I laughed and clapped my hands in glee
In my loneliness ,a friend had come to me!
