MY KID SISTER

Oh! how we fought
For each new toy,
My kid sister
You acted always coy,

Mamma's pet
Papa's spoilt pest,
You always believed in
Getting the best,

My teddies ,
My bunnies,
My dresses
You snatched,

Why your dollies,
Your doggies ,
Your dresses
Mismatched,

A size,
Always shorter
Always tighter,
Always tattered,

Your pint sized body
Your elephantine  anger,
Your clawing and crying,
Your emotional gnawing,

Why my heart stopped beating,
Seeing that solitary tear,
You forcibly brought rolling ,
Down your tender cheeks dear,

We both in Med Schools,
Far away from each other,
Inevitable adulthood engulfed,
Innocent entrancing childhood,

Oh! take away elegant sarees,
Chiffons and silken dresses,
Give me back my childhood,
Those loving tottered dollies,

My kid sister oh come back,
Fight me with your tiny fists,
Claw into my flesh,
Roll down that forced tiny tear.....

*I overheard my kids reminiscing about their glorious childhood and felt how strongly they miss each other. This poem
expresses my kids' feelings for each other.
