Marking Territories

What sustains the defender?
Marking territories,
jealously guarding,
steadfastly striving
 to hold on.
Thwarting all invasion
with body and soul.
What inspires the invader?
Pleasures of plunder,
Cravings for conquests,
Shameless show of strength
Or merely
A fetish for unfurling flags
Marking territories,
proclaiming them his.
