I Speak To You In The Name Of God

I am a humble man of means,
With pious intent so it seems
So gather around, you worthy people
I need no temple nor holy steeple
Heed my words, as bid the Lord
I speak to you in the name of God

Behold those worthy men of state
Driven by greed and avarice, debate
How many deaths it will take
So common soldiers will martyrs make.
"Seek not to kill," so bid the Lord
"Cherish life in the name of God."

And those men of cloth, they say,
Speak to God when they may
And rant and rave of the Lord's Decree
Yet breed hatred amongst the free.
"Listen well," so bid the lord,
"Within your soul is the voice of God."

And those holy places of brick and stone
Where people go to pray and atone,
Shun those worthy, that do not abide
By ritual deed or holy rite.
"Search no more," so bid the Lord,
"Within your heart is the house of God."

Through the ages so they came,
Burdened weary by mankind's shame.
The prophets, the saints, the humble sage,
Leaving one message on humanity's page,
"Respect each other as bid the Lord
"Love one another in the name of God."
