Why are you so quiet
Each day I watch and wonder
that you stand at the window
surrounded by a shadow
What do your eyes seek
each morning as they peep
over the unruly bougainvillea
scanning the crowded roads
Do you seek the face of
your soldier son or the
daughter you married off
into the country beyond?
Oh my dear Mother and Father
don't be so quiet - see your
tea has gone cold again....
Don't sit by the window to wait
I have my chores to perform
I am so tied up, yet forlorn
I long to see you smile
and miss your warmth each morn
I long to be in the comfort of your
arms, feel your pat on my back and
your caress to soothe my worries of
the world even though I'm so grown
with children of my own.....
Yes my Dad and my Mom
Each day I watch and wonder
from thousands of miles away
Why are you so quiet?
