THE LAST BREATH

The withered body is drained of strength
But still holds life in labored breath
And the soul craves for eternal peace
When it rendezvous with death.

This withered body with head bowed low
Over wounds inflicted by mortal hands...
"Lord, forgive them their transgressions
Since the ignorant do not understand"

This withered body with arms held wide
Can no longer embrace the weak and poor...
"Lord, keep thy holy light aglow
Should the unfortunate knock on heaven's door"

This withered body with feet held fast
Can no longer lead the faithful sheep...
"Lord guide those that stray away
Towards the light of thy eternal keep."

The withered body, alas, lies still
As life sheds its final breath
And the soul slumbers in eternal peace
Since its rendezvous with death.
