The River and its Flow
Here we stand the two of us
Bound together by eons of Share;
We are like a river and its flow
Moving on in the valley of time
Where one goes the other tumbles along so.
Each so embroiled in our culture of Care
To think and feel first for the other
Then for oneself
But now the emptiness is there
And neither can do much to assuage the pain that's there.
We try sometimes to break the flow
So that if one thread is cut
The unraveling would not be so slow
Held we are so tight that
It is sometimes difficult to breath alive
We have tried, but have we tried enough?
We swing high and low
Let loose, then tighten so
That the bond ends up stronger and more.
And the jumble and confusion goes on as before
The more we try to loosen it,
The more we entangle
When one lets go, the other holds fast
And when the other tries to sever the string
The first stands aghast.
The swing goes up and down
And round and round
Till life has become one long spin
What we seek is not clear
Yet we wait standing there looking outside from within.
Our time together has not been easy
And many questions were left unasked
Yet the comfort we sought was always there
And so we have to this time held fast.
Held so very fast.
He says he would unravel the knots
So that I may find my dream,
I think to let go so that he could
Someday, for himself
Find all that he ever needs.
So here we are the river and its flow
Rushing along in life rubbing at the shores
We flow swiftly in our path
And yet, the uneven pebbly bed of life
Grazes our soul and we bleed, alas.
