Homecoming

There's excitement in the very air
He is coming back today
Her spirits soar and heart beats race
He is returning at last, to stay

Her hair flies gaily in the breeze
as she frolics with her pup on the lawn
Its been a day of unalloyed joy
She's skipped and danced since dawn

But a dark cloud passes, casting
a shadow in the light of the moon
A chill gust sends a shiver
amidst the joy of seeing him soon

After seeing places and people
His tastes might be finer honed..
Time and life can transform..
His needs might have grown and toned..

The simple girl he left behind
is innocently waiting for him
Blissfully unaware what time could do
Expecting the same man that she knew ...
