I sat down
to write a happy rhyme,
but a dark shadow fell across my
page,
a strange sense of foreboding befell
me,
my mind trapped like a lark in a
cage.
I began to be devoured by the fear,
of some impending storm,
I felt a chill go down my spine,
inspite of the summer warm.
A sigh escaped my lips,
echoing with a melancholy note,
and my heart bled with pain,
as those sad refrains I wrote.
I dreaded that day, she’ll sail
away,
leaving me solitary by the shore,
to watch the sunsets in loneliness,
for sunrises there won’t be any
more.
The sunset shattered on the sea,
and it’s fragments hurt my eyes,
Broken myriad pieces of warmth,
fallen from the fiery skies.
