A little from what we know of him... (M. K. Gandhi)

The day of 2nd October dawned
And a legend was born
Born to this earth for its welfare
Born for a purpose...
Of which, even he was unaware.

We know him as 'Father of the Nation'
A soothing balm for the aching hearts
Well above the mere words that describe him
He rose above by loving even those who hated him.

Highly qualified with degrees in his hand
He casted away happiness
To lend to others a helping hand
He fought against injustice with equal strength
As he loved those who were right
Love was depicted in his eyes so bright.

His heart was pure
Overflowing with love for his brethrens
To live and let live was his message
For one and millions.

He said what he felt
And he did what he said
Away from hypocrisy,
Away from jealousy
This 'little' man
With a huge shadow of wisdom following him
Unknowingly attracted people to salute him.

Staying in the simplest of accomodation
He managed to live in hearts of the nation
Walking down the street with simplest of possible clothing
He was never short of anything.

A personality so simple
Yet so elegant
His speech mesmerized everyone
Be it a British or a mere peasant

Even the cruelest of the dictators of those times
Bent their head when he walked in the room
This was not fear,
Nor was this any obligation
It was just a matter of respect
Which everyone had for him
Apart from our nation.
